A Brix refractometer for testing colostrum quality on the farm in a few seconds.
Description
A calf should get four litres of good quality colostrum in its first 12 hours, and a Brix refractometer is the easiest on-farm way to check what you're feeding. A reading of 22% or higher indicates good quality colostrum.
To use it, put one or two drops on the prism with the pipette, close the cover plate, point it at the light and read where the blue and white sections meet. It comes in a plastic carry case with the pipette and instructions. Clean and dry the prism afterwards.
